STEPHANIE GUILAND-BROWN studied at the Joffrey School, The Dance Theater of Harlem, Laguardia High School for the Performing Arts and with Madame Gabriela Taub- Darvash. She’s worked in video and toured with music groups such as PM Dawn, Monie Love, En Vogue, and Salt-n- Pepa. She’s honored to have been a member of Donald Byrd/ The Group for 10 years, as well as one of the original company members of Complexions. She has assisted in the re-staging of Mr. Byrd’s Dance at the Gym, and had the honor of restaging Mr. Byrd’s Burlesque, on the AAADT. She has served as choreographic assistant to Mr. Byrd for a work on the Cincinnati Ballet and works regularly with the Spectrum Dance Theater either as a coach or in the capacity of reconstructing old works of Mr. Byrd. She served on Broadway as the Dance Captain for Oprah Winfrey’s, The Color Purple, as Associate Choreographer for the First National Tour of The Color Purple, and was a part of Disney’s, The Lion King on Broadway. Since then she’s been fortunate enough to assist Mr. Byrd on Bristol Riverside Theater’s production of Shakespeare’s, What you Will. She rejoined the First National Tour of The Color Purple as the Assistant Dance Captain and as an understudy for the role of “Squeak” and served as the associate choreographer for the Equity workshop production of the musical, White Noise: A Cautionary Tale. She recently completed assisting on the restaging process for Mr. Byrd’s ballet, Shards on AAADT second company. he has served on faculty for The Dance Theater of Harlem, is on faculty for Williamsburg Movement and Arts Center and is the current Guest Artist in Residence for Long Island University’s dance department, for the Fall 2010. She also has been a practicing ACE certified personal trainer for the past six years.
