Joe Gonzalez
Joe González is an Afro-Latino American dancer and choreographer from Boston, Massachusetts. He began dancing at a young age, initially participating in the Boston Ballet’s City Dance program and receiving a scholarship to join both the Boston Ballet School and its summer program.
During middle school, Joe was involved in Ailey Camp Boston and their after-school program, Act II. In 2001, he joined the Roxbury Center for the Performing Arts, founded and directed by Andrea H. Major. After a year of intensive training at Roxbury Center, he applied to Boston Arts Academy, a performing arts high school. Over the next four years, Joe collaborated with choreographers such as Nathan Trice, Pedro Ruiz Jr. (Ballet Hispanico), Sean Currán, and Ronald K. Brown, and was recognized with the Boston Arts Academy Dance Award and the Young Arts Merit Award from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts in 2006. He graduated with high honors as a dance major.
Joe furthered his education at the Boston Conservatory, where he performed in numerous productions, including works by Anthony Tudor, José Limón, David Lichine, Alwin Nikolais and Murray Louis, and Anna Sokolow. His training included scholarships for programs such as the Boston Conservatory’s Summer Intensive (2006), American Dance Festival (2004), Bates Dance Festival (2005), and Springboard Danse Montréal (2010 and 2011), where he worked with RUBBERBANDance Group, Cas Public, and William Forsythe. With funding from Boston Arts Academy, Celebrity Series Boston, and other sources, Joe earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Boston Conservatory, where he premiered several works in choreography showcases and produced an evening performance and dance installation.
