Nathan Trice
Nathan Trice is an acclaimed Artistic Director, Choreographer, Anti-Racist Organizer, and Inter-Spiritual Practitioner from Detroit, MI. A US Naval veteran, Trice began his artistic career in 1988 and completed the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center's certificate program in 1993. He has performed with MOMIX Dance Company, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Donald Byrd/The Group, and Forces of Nature Dance Company, among others.
In 1998, Trice founded nathan trice / RITUALS Dance Theater Music, aiming to present educational programs and performances that emphasize empathy and understanding. He created the Recognizing Women Project (RWP) in 2001, focusing on the stories of women across cultures. This initiative has been showcased at venues including Judson Memorial Church and the Charles H. Wright African American Museum of History.
Trice has been honored with the RestorationART Youth Arts Academy Recognition Award and an indefinite residency at The Billie Holiday Theater Arts Program. His 2012 multimedia performance, Strange Love: EPISODES, explores themes of community and intimacy and has been featured at various venues including SummerStage and the Billie Holiday Theater.
In 2014, Trice co-founded Artist Co-Creating Real Equity (ACRE), an organization dedicated to fostering anti-racist leadership in the arts. He served as director of the Billie Holiday Theater’s choreographic residency program from 2016 to 2018 and was ordained into Inter-faith/Inter-spiritual ministry in 2020.
Trice and his company have performed at prestigious festivals and venues, including Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, City Center Fall For Dance, and the Hong Kong Hip Hop Festival. His work is known for its innovation and deep reflection on the human experience.
